David Ricardo was a British financier, member of Parliament, and leading classical political economist. In On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation, published in 1817, he studied how national income is divided among wages, profits, and land rent. His account of comparative advantage showed how specialization and trade can benefit countries even when one is more productive in every activity, under the model's assumptions. Ricardo also wrote about money, public debt, machinery, and the Corn Laws. He is useful when a debate turns on trade-offs, distribution, and the difference between a model and its conditions.
BLS released July 2026 CPI showing headline inflation at 3.4% year-over-year (down from 3.5% in June) and 0.1% month-over-month, both in line with expectations. Core measures similarly moderated. This eases some pressure on the Fed after prior elevated readings linked to energy and supply shocks.
